Ever since John Still returned to Dagenham and Redbridge in 2004 for his second management spell, the club hasbecome somewhat ofa conveyor belt of youngtalented players who are eventually poached by larger teams. In 2007, Craig Mackail Smith and Shane Blackett were sold to Peterborough due to the sides unexpected charge to the top of the Nationwide Conference.After a tricky first season in League Two, the 2008/09 campaign saw the Daggers launch another surprising promotion bid. This time the club failed to move up to League One and paid the price with defender Danny Foster, midfielder Sam Saunders and striker Ben Strevens all switching to Brentford in a triple swoop.The teams prospects were hit only a couple of weeks into the new season as Solomon Taiwo was purchased by Championship side Cardiff City and highly rated left back Scott Griffiths was loaned to Peterborough with a fee to be agreed in January. Even so, Dagenham and Redbridge currently lie 4th in League Kevin Plawecki Jersey Two which is a remarkable achievement considering all the recent squad upheavel. Summer signings Stuart Thurgood, Graeme Montgomery, Abu Ogogo, Will Antwi and Danny Green have all settled well. However, there is one newcomer in particular who looks to be a cla s above the Football Leagues bottom division.Forward Josh Scott has been an instant hit at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham stadium since his summer move from Hayes and Yeading. The 24-year-old striker was top goalscorer for the Blue Square Premier club last season with 25 goals which inevitably earned hima move to the Daggers. His physical style combined with explosive pace has ensured that League Two defenders do not get an easy ride on a Saturday afternoon.Scotts performances have been very impre sive during the first half of the League Two season. After initially settling as Paul Bensons first choice strike partner, Scott grabbed his first competitive goal for the club in the clubs 3-1 League Cup defeat to Cardiff City. He followed this up with a goal on his league debut in the 5-3 victory against Torquay United. Further good performances with goals against Morecambe, Darlington and Port Valehelped secure his place in the starting line up. However, a succe sion of small niggling injuries has seen his appearances restricted in the past month.Neverthele s, with the Daggers drawing 1-1 at home to Bury on Saturday, Scott made his return to the first team from the substitutes bench around the 60 minutes mark. The striker showed why he has been rumoured with a move to various unnamed League One clubs with a superb all action display that played a large part in the Daggers eventual 3-1 victory. The forwards all round contribution gives the team a completely different dimension which is sure to have been noticed from the various scouts present at Daggers matches.
