What Should You Actually Pay for a Hair Transplant in Manchester?

You've spent an evening on clinic websites. You've read about follicular units and donor areas and graft survival. And you still have no idea whether you're looking at a three thousand pound decision or a twelve thousand pound one.

That's frustrating. It's also, unfortunately, the honest position — though not for the reason most people assume.

"It depends" isn't always a dodge

When a clinic tells you the price depends on your individual case, it sounds like the opening move in a sales conversation. Sometimes it is.

But consider what's actually being priced. A hair transplant is measured in grafts — individual follicular units moved one at a time from the back of your scalp to where you need them. Somebody restoring a slightly thinning temple might need a modest number. Somebody rebuilding a hairline and crown together might need several times that. Same clinic, same team, same technique — completely different amount of work.

Quoting a single price for both would mean overcharging one patient to subsidise the other. Most clinics that do publish flat pricing are quietly assuming a fairly narrow definition of what's included, and the extras appear later.

So what actually moves the number?

How much area you're covering. More ground means more grafts and a longer day.

How many grafts you need. The core variable. It's estimated at assessment, based on your loss pattern and how much donor hair you have available.

How intricate the hairline is. Designing a hairline that looks like it grew there involves irregularity, varied density and careful angling — and it has to still look right in fifteen years, once your natural loss has progressed further. Some cases are simply more demanding than others.

Whether it's corrective work. Fixing someone else's procedure is harder than starting fresh.

Which technique you have. FUE, FUT and unshaven FUE all take different amounts of time and planning. Unshaven procedures are the most demanding of the three, since everything has to be done through your existing hair rather than a shaved scalp — which slows the whole day down.

The variable nobody mentions in the price

Here's the part that rarely appears in a quote breakdown: who is actually handling your grafts.

Most of the attention in hair restoration goes to the surgeon, and that's reasonable — hairline design, graft placement and the recipient-site incisions are the stages that most influence whether the result looks natural. But a transplant runs for the better part of a day, and throughout it a clinical team is extracting, preparing, storing and placing thousands of fragile grafts.

Grafts don't survive careless handling. A team that has supported thousands of procedures works differently from one that hasn't. You won't see this on an invoice, and you won't see the difference for eight to twelve months — but it's arguably the biggest single factor separating a good result from a disappointing one.

Worth asking about. Most clinics won't volunteer to do it.

Red flags on pricing

A quote that comes in dramatically below everyone else is saving money somewhere. Common places: less experienced clinical staff, lower facility standards, minimal aftercare, or a graft estimate that quietly gets revised upward on the day.

Equally, a very high price doesn't automatically buy a better outcome. Some clinics price to the premium end of the market because that's the market they've positioned themselves in, not because the procedure costs more to deliver.

What you want is a clinic that will explain its number.

How to get a real figure

There's no shortcut. Someone has to look at your scalp, assess your donor area and understand what you're trying to achieve.

Laurian Clinic in Bury, Greater Manchester runs free consultations with no obligation attached. They'll assess your loss pattern, evaluate your donor supply, talk honestly about whether surgery is even the right route for you, and quote afterwards. Not every patient is a good candidate for a transplant, and a clinic worth using will tell you that.

More detail on hair transplant pricing and the experienced clinical team is available on their site.
