If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, there are few items are unique as a Lord of the Rings sword replicas that will excite and enthrall when added to your collection.

They’re also not cheap, so you might justifiably want to know how to care for them properly after you’ve put money into the investment.

This short post will give you some insight into how to properly care for your Lord of the Rings swords so they’re as beautiful in 5 years as the first time you draw them.

  • Only use battle ready swords for live cutting practice.

Some Lord of the Rings sword replicas may be battle ready, which means they can be used for live cutting practice. However, it is critical only to use battle ready swords for live cutting practice so as not to damage the blade.

  • Don’t stick the blade in the ground or strike hard targets.

Battle-ready or not, never stick the blade of a sword replica into the ground or use it to strike hard targets as this will damage the edge if not the entire sword.

  • Don’t touch the blade if you can help it.

There are oils and salts in your skin that, if they are left in contact with a sword’s blade, can incur corrosion. Therefore if you can help it you should not touch the blade of your sword.

  • Don’t throw the sword.

Regardless of what you may have seen in a movie somewhere, swords are not intended to be thrown. Doing so will likely damage the blade or worse. Even a battle-ready sword should not be thrown.

  • Periodically oil the blade.

Even a stainless steel sword blade will rust or become stained if exposed to corrosive influences. Applying a drop or two of oil to each side of the blade from time to time will help prevent this. Alternatively, microcrystalline wax can also be used.

  • Keep the blade clean.

If you do use a sword for live cutting practice, never put the sword away with a dirty blade, as whatever you leave on the blade can cause rust and corrosion.

  • Address rust early.

If you do get any spots of rust on the blade of your Lord of the Rings sword replicas, use fine steel wool to remove it immediately, then oil the blade.

  • Display the blade outside of its scabbard.

Displaying a sword with the blade in its scabbard is not only hiding much of the beauty of its sword, but it will also trap moisture near the blade. Therefore it’s best to display the sword with the blade exposed.

  • Don’t store the sword anywhere that it will be exposed to high humidity.

High humidity causes rust on steel. Therefore, wherever you store or display the sword, make sure you choose a location that experiences low humidity most of the time.
