Valued at USD 13.5 billion in 2025, the military simulation and virtual training market is projected to reach USD 14.1 billion in 2026 and USD 20.3 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 4.6% during the forecast period 2026–2034. The market covers technologies used to recreate battlefield conditions, combat missions, aircraft operations, naval exercises, and tactical training environments through digital systems. Growth is driven by increasing defense modernization programs, rising demand for cost-effective military readiness solutions, and growing adoption of immersive synthetic training environments. North America was the largest market in 2025.

Cost-Effective Military Readiness Drives Adoption

Simulation technologies help cut training costs while enhancing combat preparedness. Live military operations carry significant costs for fuel, ammunition, and maintenance, whereas virtual systems enable repetitive mission training without putting expensive defense systems at risk. SIPRI reported that global military spending rose 2.9% in real terms to USD 2.88 trillion in 2025, a 41% increase over the 2016–2025 period, and continued military modernization is expected to sustain demand for virtual training systems.

Synthetic Training Environments Support Multi-Domain Operations

Armed forces are increasingly leveraging connected synthetic training environments to operate in multi-domain scenarios. In February 2026, Vantor was awarded a contract worth up to USD 217 million for immersive 3D terrain products used by the U.S. Army under the One World Terrain program for training and mission rehearsal. Such technologies help soldiers rehearse urban combat, drone operations, cyber warfare, and electronic warfare.

Flight Simulation Leads the Platform Segment

Flight simulation dominated the market with a 41.2% share in 2025, owing to rising pilot readiness requirements and combat aircraft modernization. Modern military aircraft require extensive mission rehearsal and emergency handling training before live deployment, and defense organizations continue investing in advanced flight simulators to improve readiness and reduce live aircraft operating costs. The air application segment held a 48.5% share, supported by procurement of fighter aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. By component, hardware led with 47.6%, reflecting deployment of motion systems, simulator cabins, immersive displays, and haptic devices.

Live-Virtual-Constructive Training Grows Fastest

By training type, virtual training dominated in 2025 with a 43.7% revenue share, driven by VR-based and simulator-based platforms for weapons handling, procedural training, and mission rehearsal. Live-virtual-constructive training is projected to grow at the fastest CAGR, 5.1%, due to demand for integrated battlefield training ecosystems. LVC systems connect live soldiers, virtual simulators, and computer-generated forces within a common environment, and rising coalition exercises and distributed mission operations support growth. The ground application segment is projected to grow at 5.0%, driven by infantry modernization and armored vehicle training.

Regional Analysis: North America Leads, Asia Pacific Accelerates

North America held a 42.6% share in 2025 on high defense expenditure and a strong presence of military technology providers across the U.S. and Canada. In December 2025, Thales Group integrated drones into live combat simulation programs to improve soldier preparedness. Asia Pacific is projected to grow fastest, at 5.2%, as China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Australia pursue defense modernization programs. In Europe, increasing NATO defense spending is supporting demand, and in December 2025 Airbus was selected by the Spanish Ministry of Defence to lead the new Integrated Combat Training System, replacing the country's aging F-5 fleet.

Key Players in the Military Simulation and Virtual Training Market

Major companies Military Simulation And Virtual Training include BAE Systems plc, Boeing, CAE Inc., Collins Aerospace, Cubic Corporation, Elbit Systems Ltd., L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, RTX Corporation, Saab AB, and Thales Group. The market is moderately fragmented, with global defense contractors, simulation technology vendors, and training system integrators competing on simulation fidelity, interoperability, AI incorporation, and lifecycle services. In March 2026, the Danish Army selected BAE Systems' OneARC platform to modernize its enterprise simulation infrastructure and strengthen interoperable training capabilities.
