The CMP's automation engine orchestrates all the underlying tasks, communicating with the SDC, SDS, and SDN controllers to provision the resources according to predefined policies and blueprints. This layer is what delivers the true "cloud-like" experience, transforming the IT department from a manual provisioner of infrastructure into a broker of automated IT services.
A complete SDDC solution must also provide a seamless on-ramp to the public cloud, enabling a true hybrid cloud operating model. This involves extending the on-premises SDDC management platform to also manage resources in one or more public clouds, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. The solution provides a "single pane of glass" for visibility and governance across both the private and public cloud environments. A key feature is workload mobility. The solution should make it easy to migrate a virtual machine or an application from the on-premises SDDC to the public cloud, and vice versa. This is often achieved by running the same software-defined infrastructure stack in both locations.
