Most enterprise-focused BaaS offerings are primarily of the authentication type.
Segmentation by Deployment Model: Cloud vs. On-Premise (Hybrid)
The deployment model provides another critical way to segment the BaaS market. The vast majority of the market falls under the Public Cloud deployment type. In this model, the entire BaaS platform, including the biometric engine and database, is hosted and managed by the vendor in a multi-tenant cloud environment. This offers the greatest scalability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use, as customers do not have to manage any infrastructure. However, for some organizations with extremely strict data residency requirements or internal security policies, a public cloud model may not be feasible. For these clients, some vendors offer a Private Cloud or On-Premise deployment type. In this model, the BaaS software is deployed on the customer's own private cloud infrastructure or even in their own data center. The Government and Public Sector type utilizes BaaS for national ID programs, border control, and secure access for civil servants. The Healthcare market type is a growing segment focused on accurate patient identification, securing electronic health records (EHR), and authenticating providers for telehealth services. The IT and Telecom sector uses BaaS for securing its own infrastructure and for authenticating field service technicians.
